Santiago Markets Food Tour
Overview
Eat your way through Santiago's markets with a local guide. Starting near the Plaza de Armas, you walk north across the Mapocho River to La Vega Central, the city's great fruit and vegetable market, piled high with chillies, berries, avocados and stalls selling hot lunches to market workers.
Along the way you try the things Santiago really eats: empanadas, sopaipillas, fresh fruit, a pisco or a glass of wine, and mote con huesillo, the summer favourite of chilled dried peaches and wheat. The walk ends at the Mercado Central, the elegant iron-roofed fish market, with seafood and a glass of Chilean white.
It's a relaxed, street-level way to understand the city, with around ten tastings on most tours. Not every operator can cater for vegetarians and vegans, so let us know in advance.
