Overview

If you'd rather see the south by road, this guided day trip takes the winding west-coast highway through banana valleys and fishing villages to Soufrière, the island's old French capital, with photo stops along the way.

The main event is the Sulphur Springs Park, where you walk up to the steaming vents of a dormant volcano and can soak in pools of warm, mineral-rich mud and water. Nearby, the Diamond Botanical Gardens lead you along shaded paths to Diamond Falls, whose rock is streaked with colour by the minerals in the water.

Your guide stops at a viewpoint for the classic photo of the Pitons and tells you about the island's history, plants and Creole culture on the drive. Most tours include a local Creole lunch.
