Overview

This is the day trip most visitors take, and it shows you the island from the water. A shared catamaran sails south along the west coast, past fishing villages and Marigot Bay, until the Pitons appear ahead.

At Soufrière you go ashore by minibus to the Sulphur Springs, the "drive-in volcano", where you can tour the steaming crater or soak in the warm volcanic mud baths. Next comes a waterfall, usually Diamond Falls in the botanical gardens or a smaller cascade, depending on the operator.

Back on board, lunch is served as you sail, followed by a swim and snorkel stop in a quiet bay. On the way home the boat often detours into Marigot Bay before heading north, with rum punch flowing on the last stretch.

Swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sun cream, a hat and old swimwear if you plan to try the mud baths, as the mud can stain.
