Overview

See Manila's walled city the easy way, on a bike with a frame made of bamboo. Intramuros was the Spanish capital of the Philippines, and its stone walls, plazas and cobbled streets are best explored at a gentle pedal.

With a local guide you ride past colonial houses on General Luna Street, stop at San Agustin Church, the oldest stone church in the country and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and pause in front of Manila Cathedral. The guide fills in the story of the city, from Spanish galleons to the destruction of 1945.

The full version of the tour also takes in Fort Santiago, the old citadel where national hero José Rizal was held before his execution in 1896, with its moat, gate and Rizal shrine. Shorter express versions skip the fort, leaving you to visit it on your own. Riding is flat and slow-paced, with plenty of stops, so it suits most ages and fitness levels.
