Kawasan Falls Canyoneering, Cebu
Overview
If you add Cebu to your trip, this is its most famous adventure. In Badian, on the south-west coast, the Kawasan River has carved a narrow limestone canyon filled with turquoise water, and canyoneering means making your way down it by walking, swimming, floating and jumping.
After a safety briefing and a ride to the start point, you head into the gorge in a helmet and life jacket with local guides. The route mixes easy river trekking with swims through deep pools and a series of jumps into the water, from about one metre up to around six metres; every jump has an easier way round, so you only jump as high as you want to. The canyon is shaded and green, with small waterfalls all along it.
The trip ends at Kawasan Falls, where the river drops into a milky-blue pool and you can relax on a bamboo raft. From Cebu City it's a long day of about 10 hours door to door, with roughly three hours' drive each way; the canyoneering itself takes three to five hours.
