Evening, about 5–6 hours including transfers
Wildlife night tour
Bathway Beach on Grenada's northeast coast, near Levera

Overview

Leatherbacks are the largest turtles on Earth, and every year between March and July they haul themselves up Levera Beach, in the far northeast of Grenada, to lay their eggs. Watching one dig her nest in the dark is something you won't forget.

You're driven up the east coast in the late afternoon and reach the beach, part of a protected national park, as night falls. A local community guide gives a short talk on the turtles and how they're protected, then leads small groups onto the sand once a turtle has been spotted. Only red light is used so as not to disturb her.

This is nature, not a show: sightings are likely in the peak months of April to June, but never guaranteed, and you may wait a while. Nobody stays on the beach after midnight.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take photos?

Flash and white light are not allowed, because they disturb the turtles. Your guide will tell you when and how photos are possible.

Are children welcome?

Yes, if they can stay quiet and cope with a late night. It's a long evening with some waiting on the beach.
