Grenada island highlights: Grand Etang, Annandale Falls and St George's
Overview
If you only leave the resort once, make it this tour. Your driver-guide collects you from your hotel and starts in St George's, where pastel houses tumble down to the Carenage harbour. Climb up to Fort George, built by the French in the early 1700s, for the best view over the town and the bay.
Then the road winds up into the mountains to the Grand Etang Forest Reserve. Here a lake fills the crater of an old volcano at around 530 metres, surrounded by rainforest, and mona monkeys sometimes appear by the roadside. Stretch your legs on a short trail from the visitor centre.
On the way back down you stop at Annandale Falls, where a stream drops into a pool among ferns and spice trees. Swim if you like, and your guide will show you nutmeg, cinnamon and cocoa growing along the way, the crops that gave Grenada its nickname.
