Čičmany, Bojnice Castle & the High Tatras Day Trip
Overview
Cross Slovakia in a single day, from the painted village of Čičmany to a lake high in the Tatras. This long guided trip leaves Bratislava in the morning with an English-speaking guide.
In Čičmany, the black log houses are decorated with white geometric patterns, once painted in lime to protect the timber; in 1977 the village became the world's first folk architecture reserve. Bojnice Castle, with its turrets and steep roofs, was remodelled by the Pálffy family on the model of the French Loire châteaux and looks every inch the fairytale castle. On the way you pass the clifftop ruins of Beckov Castle above the Váh valley.
The final stop is Štrbské Pleso, a glacial lake at around 1,350 metres in the High Tatras, where a lakeside path gives you views of the granite peaks before the drive back to Bratislava in the evening.
