Nevis Island Day Trip from St Kitts
Overview
Nevis lies just a few kilometres south of St Kitts, but it feels like another world: a round green island built around the cloud-wrapped cone of Nevis Peak, with old plantation inns, quiet roads and long, empty beaches.
After pickup at your hotel, you take the ferry from Basseterre to Charlestown, the island's small capital, a crossing of about 45 minutes with views of both islands. On Nevis, a guide takes you round by minibus for about two and a half hours. You see Charlestown's stone and clapboard buildings, including the house where Alexander Hamilton was born, now the Museum of Nevis History. You stop at the hot springs at Bath, where warm volcanic water still runs below the ruins of an 18th-century spa hotel, and at viewpoints looking up to Nevis Peak, passing plantation houses that have become country inns.
Then choose how to spend the rest of the day: take the early-afternoon ferry back, or stay on for free time, perhaps at the Botanical Gardens or on Pinney's Beach, before a later crossing.
