Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, Sepilok
Overview
Right next to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, and sharing its entrance, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre cares for rescued sun bears, the smallest bears in the world. Many arrived as former pets and are learning to live in the forest again.
Raised walkways run along the edge of the forest enclosures, with telescopes for a closer look, so you can watch the bears climbing, digging for insects or dozing in the trees. Information panels explain the threats they face and the centre's work.
It's an easy visit to add to a morning with the orangutans: the walk takes only about 20 minutes, but most people linger to watch.
