Balthazar River tubing
Overview
Sit in a big rubber ring and let the Balthazar River carry you down through the rainforest on the eastern side of the island. It's not a lazy float: the current bounces you over small rapids and round rocks, the guides spin and splash you, and everyone ends up laughing and soaked.
The experience starts at Balthazar Bridge in Grand Bras, about 40 to 60 minutes' drive from the south coast hotels, usually over the mountains via Grand Etang. After a safety briefing and fitting your life jacket and helmet, you're in the water for around an hour and a quarter, with guides in the river alongside you the whole way.
At the end there's a rum punch or fruit punch to warm up. Bring a change of clothes, as you will get wet.
