Overview
Five days on Fakarava, a coral atoll in the Tuamotu with the second-largest lagoon in French Polynesia, part of a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1977. The atoll is about 60 km long, and its main village is Rotoava.
Its northern Garuae pass, around 1,600 metres wide, is the largest in French Polynesia and is famous for drift dives among grey sharks, manta rays, turtles and barracudas. Flights from Tahiti take just over an hour.
