Tu viaje

1
Fly to Kuala Lumpur
Fly from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur, direct with Malaysia Airlines or via the Gulf with Gulf Air. On arrival, your transfer takes you to Meliá Kuala Lumpur in Bukit Bintang, your base for 2 nights in a Double Room with breakfast. In the evening, Jalan Alor's food street is a short walk away.
2
Kuala Lumpur highlights tour
Discover the capital on the included Kuala Lumpur highlights tour, with lunch. Kuala Lumpur mixes the glass and steel of the Petronas Twin Towers with colonial buildings around Merdeka Square, mosques, Chinese and Hindu temples and busy markets. In your free time, optional extras at extra cost include Batu Caves and a street food night tour.
3
Fly to Sandakan: orangutans and rainforest
Transfer to the airport for your domestic flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan in Sabah, then on to Borneo Sepilok Rainforest Resort for 1 night on full board. Today you visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where young orangutans rescued from the wild come to the feeding platforms from the forest, and the Borneo Rainforest Discovery Centre, with trails and a canopy walkway through the treetops. Entrance fees are included. The Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre next door can be added at extra cost.
4
To the Kinabatangan River
Transfer from Sepilok to Bilit on the Kinabatangan River, Sabah's longest river, and cross by boat to the Tanini Hotel / Borneo Natural, your home for 2 nights in a Bangkatan Cabin on full board. The lodge stands in the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, where the forest along the river is home to ten species of primate.
5
Sukau: hornbills, monkeys and elephants
Head out around Sukau, on the Kinabatangan, to look for hornbills, monkeys and elephants. All eight of Borneo's hornbill species live in this area, proboscis monkeys gather in the riverside trees towards evening, and herds of Bornean pygmy elephants move along the floodplain. Wildlife is wild, so sightings can never be guaranteed, but early mornings and late afternoons give you the best chance.
6
Fly to Kota Kinabalu
Transfer for your domestic flight from Kinabatangan to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah's capital on the west coast, and on to the Mercure Hotel on Jalan Gaya for 2 nights in an Executive Suite on half board. Its rooftop infinity pool looks over the city to the islands. Optional at extra cost: a Kota Kinabalu city tour.
7
Kiulu River and Kiulu Valley
Join the included excursion to the Kiulu River and the Kiulu Valley, about an hour or so inland from Kota Kinabalu, where the river runs through green hills, rice fields and Dusun villages, with Mount Kinabalu rising beyond. The Kiulu is Sabah's best-known river for gentle white-water rafting. Optional at extra cost on a free afternoon or evening: Mari Mari Cultural Village.
8
To Gaya Island
Transfer to Jesselton Point and cross by boat to Gaya Island Resort, in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, for 3 nights in a Kinabalu Villa with breakfast. The villa sits high on the hillside, looking out to sea and, on a clear day, to Mount Kinabalu.
9–10
Gaya Island beach relax
Days to relax on the beach and by the pool on Gaya Island. If you'd like to do more, the resort offers snorkelling, kayaking, nature walks, its spa and visits to its turtle and coral Marine Centre, and island hopping in the marine park or a day trip to Kinabalu Park can be arranged, all at extra cost.
11
Fly home
Boat back to Kota Kinabalu and transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Kuala Lumpur, connecting with your return flight to London Heathrow.
